Funding Staff Payments in Tourney Direct
Tourney Direct offers two options for funding staff payments through TD Pay: ACH bank transfer or credit card funding. This article explains how each option works, the timing of payments, and our policies for each method.
Overview
Before staff payments can be sent to officials, the event operator must fund the stipend pool for that event. This ensures that once the event concludes and payments are finalized, Tourney Direct can immediately process payouts to staff.
You can fund staff payments using:
-
ACH Bank Account (Recommended)
-
Credit Card
Most organizations choose ACH because it avoids credit card processing fees and allows for higher funding limits.
Option 1: ACH Bank Account (Recommended)
How it works
Operators can securely connect a bank account through the Account section of the portal. Once connected, Tourney Direct can debit the account to fund staff payments.
Process
-
Connect your bank account in the TD Pay section of the Account portion of the portal.
-
Authorize Tourney Direct to debit the account for staff payroll and applicable platform service fees.
-
After the event concludes and final stipends are calculated, the total amount will be debited from the connected bank account plus any service fees.
-
Staff payments are then immediately sent to officials through their connected payout accounts upon receipt of the funds.
Timing
Typical timeline:
| Step | Timing |
|---|---|
| Event concludes | Sunday |
| Payroll finalized | Sunday evening |
| ACH debit initiated | Sunday/Monday |
| Officials receive payouts | 1–2 business days |
ACH funding allows Tourney Direct to process payments quickly while keeping costs low.
Benefits of ACH
• No credit card processing fees
• Higher funding limits
• Most reliable method for large payroll amounts
Option 2: Credit Card Funding
Credit card funding is available for operators who prefer to fund staff payments using a card rather than a bank account.
Processing Fee
Credit card funding incurs a 3% processing fee.
Funding Limit
Credit card funding is limited to $15,000 per event.
If projected payments exceed this amount, ACH funding will be required.
How it works
Because payroll totals may change during the weekend, Tourney Direct uses a prefunding model when credit cards are used.
Before the event:
-
Tourney Direct will issue an invoice for the projected stipend amount plus a buffer (typically 10%).
-
A 3% processing fee is applied to the invoice.
-
The credit card on file is automatically charged when the invoice is issued.
This ensures funds are secured before the event begins so officials can be paid promptly.
Example
| Item | Amount |
|---|---|
| Projected stipends | $10,000 |
| Buffer (10%) | $1,000 |
| Subtotal | $11,000 |
| Credit card fee (3%) | $330 |
| Total charged | $11,330 |
Post-Event Reconciliation
After the event concludes:
-
Final stipends and service fees are calculated automatically by our platform.
-
The invoiced amount is reconciled with the actual total.
If the original invoice exceeds the final amount:
• The difference is applied as a credit toward the next event's funding invoice or refunded.
This approach allows operators who run events regularly to maintain a smooth funding cycle.
Payment Timing
Once an event concludes and final payments are calculated:
-
Tourney Direct processes staff payments immediately.
-
Staff receive payouts based on their payout method.
Typical payout timing:
| Payment Type | Timing |
|---|---|
| Standard bank payout | 1–2 business days |
Receipts and Reporting
Each funding charge generates a receipt that is sent to the operator.
All payroll totals and payment details can also be viewed in the Reporting tab within the Tourney Direct portal, allowing you to match receipts with the underlying stipend payments.
Choosing the Right Funding Method
| Feature | ACH | Credit Card |
|---|---|---|
| Processing fees | None | 3% |
| Funding limit | No practical limit | $15,000 |
| Best for | Large events and regular payroll | Smaller events or occasional use |
For most operators, ACH is the preferred method because it minimizes costs and supports larger payroll amounts.
